FEBRUARY'S 30

February brings with it many wonderful things to celebrate! My first project print show in January, held at Calypsos Coffee Co. in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho was a very exciting step forward for Debt-Free by 30. To follow it up, it was important for me to take advantage of a trip back to Santa Barbara this month, and use it as an opportunity for show #2. It all came together with the help of my girlfriends, and opening night was a great success. Ironically enough I had never been in the busy, downtown coffeehouse that hosted the show – Coffee Cat. I chalk that up to my long time position at Starbucks (Team DLG). Nevertheless, the hip environment lent itself perfectly to a fun night of sharing my work, catching up with friends, and meeting new people. Among the many conversations that night came one specific critique, and it came twice. Two of my friends gave me a hard time for not yet having any ocean imagery offered in the project. So for this month’s 30, and to fulfill the request of my friends, I decided I would focus on two subjects. Water*Fowl…images involving water and birds, sometimes both in the same frame. Many of the images were shot during my recent trip to Santa Barbara, the others were selected from my archives of past days spent sailing on calm seas, walking along a water’s edge, or the opportunities I have had exploring new environments. One of the images falls outside one of these moments, and admittedly was taken in March, but the fun, kitchen sink shoot produced something that deserved to be included with February’s 30.
